BRILLIANT review of antichrist
i just read this fucking amazing movie review of
antichrist on in contention, written by guy lodge. i don't think i've ever read one of his reviews before, but i will definitely look them out in the future. i wish i could write like this. this is absolutely the best reflection not only on
antichrist, but on any of von trier's work that i've ever read. . . and by a u.s.-american no less. i can't say that i have ever seen any critic in this country "get" von trier before. i love how lodge begins this review by reflecting on the possibility that maybe von trier actually
is the greatest living filmmaker. of course, making such a statement definitively would be silly, but i think it is really a shame that u.s. critics haven't ever truly warmed up to his brilliance. in my opinion, von trier is the greatest film maker working today, and i always feel frustrated when his movies are released in the u.s. to mediocre-at-best reviews and audiences of dozens. i have been looking forward to
antichrist for almost a year now, and after reading lodge's review i absolutely can't wait.
you just have to read this.
